ADG partnered with the T. Brown Consulting Group to conduct the Jacksonville Food Desert Study. In Northwest Jacksonville, there is a lack of availability and access to the fresh foods needed to maintain a healthy balanced diet, reduce obesity and other nutrition-related deficiencies. As a result, this area is considered a food desert. The city of Jacksonville sought to increase access to affordable and nutritious foods for the Northwest Jacksonville community. Through neighborhood community forums, resident engagement, and utilizing the latest neighborhood-level food desert data, we were able to analyze trends in the availability of fresh healthy food options and produced a market study for Northwest Jacksonville. This report incorporated grocery store industry trends in this region, considered potential solutions to help alleviate potential food deserts, and assisted the City of Jacksonville to establish clear policy and program initiatives.
